GTA Vice City Cheats for PS2, Xbox, PC and Definitive Edition

GTA Vice City cheats at a glance

GTA Vice City cheats are hidden codes that let Tommy Vercetti spawn tanks, carry an arsenal, wipe his wanted level and make cars fly over Ocean Beach. On consoles you enter them as button sequences during gameplay; on PC you type a word. Every code in the original 2002 game still works in the 2021 Definitive Edition, and the searchable table above shows each one on your platform.

This page is the practical layer on top of that table: how to enter the codes on every version, which cheats are actually worth your time, the PC-only skin swaps, and the one thing everybody searches for that Vice City simply does not have.

Which platforms have Vice City cheats?

Every official version of Vice City with a controller or keyboard supports cheats. Here is how they line up:

A quick note on the Xbox column in our table: it uses modern controller names (LB, RB, LT, RT). The original 2003 Xbox pad had Black and White buttons instead of bumpers, so the shoulder inputs on that release map differently. If you play Vice City on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S today you are almost certainly playing the Definitive Edition, and the LB/RB/LT/RT layout applies.

How do you enter cheats in GTA Vice City?

On PlayStation, Xbox and Switch

1. Load your save and get into normal gameplay. Tommy should be on foot or in a vehicle, with the HUD visible.
2. Do not pause. Codes entered on the pause menu do nothing.
3. Press the sequence quickly and in order. Use the d-pad for directions, not the left stick.
4. Watch for the “Cheat activated” message in the top corner. If it does not appear, you missed a button; start again from the first input.

Long codes like PANZER’s twelve-button combo are where most attempts fail. If your thumbs keep slipping, warm up in our cheat trainer, which times you on real button sequences with a keyboard, an on-screen pad or a connected controller.

On PC

1. Get into gameplay (not the menu or map).
2. Type the code on your keyboard, for example PANZER.
3. There is no console or text box. The game listens for the letters and confirms with an on-screen message.
4. Codes are not case-sensitive. If one fails, you probably hit a stray key mid-word; just type it again.

PANZER: the Rhino tank

PANZER spawns a Rhino tank right in front of Tommy, and it is the code that defines Vice City for a lot of players. The Rhino shrugs off gunfire, flattens traffic just by driving through it, and fires a cannon that turns police roadblocks into scrap. It is slow, but nothing in a car chase can really stop it. The three weapon sets

Vice City splits its arsenal across three codes that share a starting pattern, which makes them easy to memorise. All three begin R1, R2, L1, R2, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down and differ only in the last two inputs:

• THUGSTOOLS (ends Right, Up) gives starter gear: brass knuckles, baseball bat, Molotovs, pistol, shotgun, Tec-9, Ruger, sniper rifle and flamethrower.
• PROFESSIONALTOOLS (ends Down, Left) gives knife, grenades, Python, stubby shotgun, Uzi, M4, laser sniper rifle and rocket launcher.
• NUTTERTOOLS (ends Down, Down) gives the heavy stuff: chainsaw, remote grenades, SPAS-12, MP5, M60 and the minigun.

Each code replaces the weapon in a given slot, so entering one set after another swaps your loadout rather than stacking it. Enter the set whose headline weapon you want last.

COMEFLYWITHME: flying cars

COMEFLYWITHME makes cars lift off when driven fast. Get up to speed on a long straight, like the causeway bridges between the islands, and gently pull back. It takes practice: steering in the air is twitchy and the landings are rarely graceful. Pair it with SEAWAYS so a botched landing over the bay does not end in a sinking car.

Vice City character skin cheats (PC)

The PC version has a set of typed-only cheats that change Tommy’s model to other characters from the story. There are no console button equivalents for these in our data, so they are PC codes.

Two more PC-only codes are worth knowing: CERTAINDEATH has Tommy light up a cigarette, and CHICKSWITHGUNS fills the streets with armed women. On every platform, DEEPFRIEDMARSBARS makes Tommy chubby and PROGRAMMER makes him skinny.

Is there a money cheat in GTA Vice City?

No. Vice City has no money cheat on any platform, and that includes the Definitive Edition. This trips people up because GTA III before it has IFIWEREARICHMAN and San Andreas after it has HESOYAM, both of which add $250,000. Neither code works in Vice City.

A good “tourist mode” combo: GRIPISEVERYTHING for handling, GREENLIGHT so every junction is clear, and APLEASANTDAY for that sunset-pastel look. A good “end of the world” combo: NOBODYLIKESME so every pedestrian attacks you, OURGODGIVENRIGHTTOBEARARMS so they are armed, then NUTTERTOOLS to fight back. Want the game to pick for you? Gotchas and safe-cheating tips

• Keep a clean save. Use one save slot for your real progress and another for cheat sessions. Vice City is less fragile than San Andreas, but it costs nothing to be careful.
• Chaos cheats can fail missions. BIGBANG destroys every nearby vehicle, including ones a mission needs. The riot and hostile-pedestrian cheats can kill mission contacts. Do not run them mid-mission.
• ICANTTAKEITANYMORE kills Tommy instantly. It is the suicide cheat. Funny once; costly if you are carrying weapons you wanted to keep.
• Weather cheats can linger. If your game is stuck in fog, enter APLEASANTDAY to reset to sunny weather.
• Weapon sets replace, they do not add. Weapons share slots, so the last set entered wins each slot.
• No online element. Vice City has no online mode; cheats only ever affect your own single-player game.

Where Vice City sits in the cheat family tree

Vice City shares a lot of DNA with GTA III. The flying-car code uses the identical button sequence in both games (COMEFLYWITHME in Vice City, CHITTYCHITTYBB in GTA III), and the health, armor and weapon codes share the same Left, Down, Right, Up rhythm. San Andreas then reused Vice City’s PANZER sequence for its own tank cheat.
