GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition Cheats for PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC

Do classic cheats work in the Definitive Edition?

Yes. GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, released in 2021, remastered GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, and all three kept their original cheat codes. If you remember PANZER, HESOYAM or GIVEUSATANK from the PS2 era, they still do exactly what they used to. What changed is the hardware: the Definitive Edition runs on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, and each platform labels its buttons differently.

The searchable table above covers every cheat for all three games. Switch platform and game filters to see the right buttons for your console. This page is your translation guide: how the button mapping works on each system, how PC typing works, what cheats do to trophies and achievements, and a word on the mobile versions.

Definitive Edition button mapping: PlayStation, Xbox and Switch

Every console cheat in the trilogy was written for the PlayStation 2 controller. To enter one on another console, swap each button for its equivalent. The d-pad directions (Up, Down, Left, Right) stay the same everywhere.

PlayStation	Xbox	Nintendo Switch
Cross	A	B
Circle	B	A
Square	X	Y
Triangle	Y	X
L1	LB	L
R1	RB	R
L2	LT	ZL
R2	RT	ZR

The Switch trap

Switch is where most people go wrong. Nintendo’s face buttons use the same letters as Xbox in different positions, so the mapping is position-based, not letter-based. Cross is the bottom button, which is B on Switch, not A. Circle is the right button, which is A. If a cheat refuses to fire on Switch, check you are not using the Xbox letters by mistake.

PS4 and PS5

PlayStation players have it easiest: the sequences are written in PlayStation buttons, so you enter them exactly as listed. The DualSense on PS5 and DualShock 4 on PS4 both work the same way. The only adjustment from the PS2 days is that L2 and R2 are now analog triggers; a full, clean press registers best.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

Swap the face buttons (Cross to A, Circle to B, Square to X, Triangle to Y) and use LB and RB for L1 and R1, LT and RT for L2 and R2. Our cheat table does this conversion for you when you pick the Xbox platform.

How to enter cheats on console

1. Load a save and get into live gameplay. The HUD should be on screen.
2. Do not pause. Inputs on the pause menu, map or phone are ignored.
3. Enter the sequence quickly and in order using the d-pad, not the left stick.
4. Look for the on-screen confirmation that the cheat is active. No message means a missed button; start again.

Long sequences like San Andreas’s sixteen-button jetpack code reward practice. Our cheat trainer supports real controllers through your browser, so you can drill the sequence on the same pad you play with.

How to enter cheats on PC

The Definitive Edition on PC keeps the classic typed codes. During gameplay, just type the word on your keyboard: PANZER in Vice City, GIVEUSATANK in GTA III, HESOYAM in San Andreas. There is no console window or text field, and the codes are not case-sensitive. If one does not trigger, a stray keypress probably broke the word; type it again from the start.

If you play on PC with a controller, typing is still the dependable route: it is faster, far less error-prone and is the method the PC versions have always supported, so keep a keyboard within reach. San Andreas on PC also has some codes with alternate typed versions; our San Andreas PC cheats guide lists them.

Do cheats disable trophies and achievements?

Using cheats in the Definitive Edition can disable trophies and achievements. That is the short answer, and it is the one to plan around. What is less clear-cut is exactly how long the block lasts: Rockstar does not publish a detailed rulebook, and player reports vary on whether it applies to the session, the save, or both.

The safe approach works regardless:

• Keep one cheat-free save for your trophy or achievement run, and never enter a code while it is loaded.
• Use a separate save for cheat sessions and messing around.
• If you have used cheats and want to go for a trophy, quit to the main menu and reload your clean save before you try. Restarting the game is the most conservative option.

Saving with cheats active is also something to think about separately, especially in San Andreas where some codes have lasting side effects. Our do cheats disable saves guide covers that across the series.

Which cheats are different between the three games?

The three games share an engine lineage, so some codes overlap and some do not:

• Money: GTA III has IFIWEREARICHMAN and San Andreas has HESOYAM, each adding $250,000. Vice City has no money cheat.
• Tank: All three can spawn a Rhino. Vice City’s PANZER and San Andreas’s tank cheat share the same button sequence; GTA III’s GIVEUSATANK is different.
• Flying cars: GTA III (CHITTYCHITTYBB) and Vice City (COMEFLYWITHME) use the identical button sequence. San Andreas uses a different one.
• Weapon sets: GTA III gives every weapon in one code. Vice City and San Andreas split weapons into three themed sets.

Mobile and Netflix versions: a caution

The Definitive Edition trilogy also came to iOS and Android through Netflix Games in late 2023. Those versions are built around touch controls, and the console button method does not translate directly. We have not been able to confirm a consistent, built-in way to enter cheats across the Netflix mobile releases, so we are not going to list one. If your version offers a cheat menu or controller support, check it in-game; otherwise, treat online claims about guaranteed mobile cheat methods with suspicion, and avoid third-party apps promising “cheat unlockers”.

For the older, non-Definitive mobile ports of San Andreas, our San Andreas mobile cheats guide has what we know.

Cheats are single-player only

None of these cheats have anything to do with online play. The Definitive Edition trilogy is a single-player package, and its cheats only affect your own game. If you came here looking for GTA Online shortcuts, there are no legitimate cheat codes for it.

Quick troubleshooting

• Nothing happens on Switch: you are probably using Xbox letters. Cross is B, Circle is A.
• Nothing happens on any console: you paused, used the stick, or missed a button.
• Nothing happens on PC: you typed during a menu or hit an extra key. Retype in gameplay.
• Cheat worked but the vehicle is not there: spawns appear near you; move to open ground and try again.
