GTA Vice City Stories Cheats for PSP and PS2

What are GTA Vice City Stories cheats?

GTA Vice City Stories cheats are button combinations you enter mid-game to get money, weapons, vehicles, weather changes and chaos in Rockstar’s 1984-set prequel to Vice City. You play as Victor “Vic” Vance, and every cheat is an eight-button sequence pressed while you play. The game flashes a confirmation when a code lands.

VCS released on the PSP in 2006 and came to the PS2 in early 2007. Unlike Liberty City Stories, it never got an iOS, Android or PC version, so these PlayStation button codes are the whole story. There are no typed words and no phone numbers.

This is an unofficial fan page with no connection to Rockstar Games or Take-Two. We only list codes that at least two established GTA references agree on. Where sources disagree about which version a code works on, we say so instead of guessing.

How to enter GTA VCS cheats

1. Load a save and get into normal gameplay, on foot or in a vehicle.
2. Stay out of the pause menu, map and phone screens.
3. Press the eight inputs in order using the d-pad, not the analog stick.
4. Look for the on-screen confirmation. If it does not appear, restart the sequence from the first button.
5. Re-enter stackable cheats, such as money or weapons, as many times as you need.

Tip: VCS cheats mix d-pad and face buttons constantly. Saying the sequence out loud (“up, down, left, right, cross, cross, L, R”) genuinely helps.

PSP vs PS2: what changes?

For the shared codes, the only difference is the shoulder buttons. The PSP has a single L and a single R, so every L1 in a PS2 code becomes L on PSP and every R1 becomes R. VCS cheats never use L2 or R2.

Beyond that, a few codes are documented for one version only:

• PSP: Black Traffic, plus four multiplayer unlock codes for the handheld’s wireless modes.
• PS2: Guy Magnet, Passenger Pedestrian and Aggressive Traffic. One major database lists these for PSP too, but the two big GTA wikis only document them on PS2, so treat them as PS2 codes unless you confirm otherwise in your copy.

One small control difference matters with the Perfect Handling cheat, which lets cars hop: press L3 to jump on PS2 and Down on the d-pad on PSP.

This is the friendliest set of survival codes in the series. Learn Up, Down, Left, Right once and you only need to remember which face button you want: Cross for cash, Circle for health, Square for armor. GTABase notes that the health code also patches up your vehicle if you are driving.

Weapon cheats

No shoulder buttons, so the weapon sets are identical on both systems. Set 3 is the heavy one, with the minigun and chainsaw. Each new set overwrites the weapons in matching slots, so enter them in an order that leaves your favourites equipped.

Wanted level cheats

Both wanted codes are pure d-pad and face buttons, so they are the same everywhere. Raise Wanted Level is the fastest way to start a fight with the cops when you want one.

The Rhino code is a neat zig-zag: d-pad direction, shoulder, d-pad direction, shoulder. It is the one most players remember from VCS.

Sunny and Clear differ only in the last button, and so do Overcast and Rainy. If you get the wrong sky, you probably fumbled the final press.

Pedestrians Riot and Pedestrians Attack are one-way doors. Entering them again does not cancel them, so reload a save to get Vice City back to normal. Never save with either one active.

Multiplayer unlock codes (PSP only)

The PSP version of VCS has local wireless multiplayer, and four codes unlock extra multiplayer content in stages. All four begin with Up, Up, Up:

References disagree on which code unlocks which percentage, so we are not labelling them. Entering all four gets you everything regardless. On PS2 they do nothing, because that version has no multiplayer.

Best VCS cheat combos

• Easy money run: stack the $250,000 code a few times to fund Vic’s business empire early.
• Rampage loadout: Weapon Set 3, Full Armor and Full Health in one go, then Raise Wanted Level for a fight.
• Tourist mode: Never Wanted, Sunny Weather and Chrome Cars for a slow drive along Ocean Beach.
• Pure chaos: Pedestrians Have Weapons plus Aggressive Traffic on PS2, on a throwaway save.

Will cheats break my VCS save?

Cheats are not blocked from saving in VCS, which is exactly why you need to be careful. Saving with a permanent cheat such as Pedestrians Riot locks that chaos into the file. VCS in the bigger picture

Vice City Stories is the second of the two PSP “Stories” games, following Liberty City Stories. Both stick to eight-button codes and skip L2 and R2 entirely, a direct result of the PSP’s controls.
