GTA 5 Phone Cheats: All 1-999 Numbers

What are GTA 5 phone cheats?

GTA 5 phone cheats are 1-999 numbers you dial on Michael, Franklin or Trevor’s in-game smartphone to trigger a cheat, instead of entering a button combo. Every cheat in Grand Theft Auto V has one. Dial 1-999-887-853 and you get full health and armor. Dial 1-999-289-9633 and a Buzzard attack helicopter appears next to you. It’s the same effect as the controller code, just delivered through a phone call.

The trick behind the numbers is old-school: most of them spell the PC console word on a standard phone keypad. 1-999-887-853 is T-U-R-T-L-E. 1-999-8665-87 is T-O-O-L-U-P. Once you notice that, you can work out almost any number in your head.

How do you dial a cheat on the GTA 5 phone?

1. Get into free roam. Phone cheats need normal gameplay. No menus, no cutscenes.
2. Pull out the phone. Press Up on the d-pad on PlayStation or Xbox, or the Up arrow on PC.
3. Open the keypad. Go into the Contacts app and use the keypad prompt shown at the bottom of the screen.
4. Dial the full number. Include the 1-999 prefix. The dashes are just for readability; you only dial digits.
5. Press call. The phone hangs up immediately and a confirmation that the cheat is active appears.

Why are phone cheats faster than button combos?

Fair question, because tapping digits sounds slower than a few button presses. In practice the phone wins for most players on console, for three reasons.

• No timing window. Button combos have to go in quickly and cleanly. A single wrong press or a pause too long and you start over. Dialing has no rush, so you can type at whatever pace you like.
• Repeats are painless. Lower Wanted Level removes one star per use, so wiping five stars means five calls. Punching in a number you already know by heart beats entering R1, R1, Circle, R2, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left five times while a police chopper is spraying your car.
• Combo-free vehicles. The Duke O’Death, the Kraken submarine and the Dodo seaplane have no button combo at all. On console, the phone is the only way to spawn them.

Where combos still win: you can enter a combo while driving without taking your eyes off the road for long, and combos are the only option on the original PS3 and Xbox 360 release. On PC, the console (~) is quicker than either.

Can you save cheat numbers as contacts in GTA 5?

Not really, and this is one of the most common questions. Story Mode’s phone gives you a fixed contact list built around the story, and as far as we know there’s no option to add your own entries. So the “save PAINKILLER as a contact” trick people describe isn’t something the game supports.

What works instead:

• Use the PC console instead, if you’re on PC. Typing TURTLE is quicker than dialing any number.
• Learn the keypad words. Because most numbers spell the cheat name, typing “TURTLE” on the keypad in your head is easier than memorizing 887-853.
• Keep a cheat sheet on your real phone. Screenshot the tables above. Low-tech, totally reliable.
• Memorize your top five. For most players that’s Invincibility, Max Health, Weapons, Lower Wanted and Buzzard. That covers most of what you’ll need in a typical session.

Which phone cheats should you memorize first?

If you only learn a handful, make it these. They solve the problems you’ll actually have in a typical session.

1. 1-999-5299-3787 (Lower Wanted Level). You will get chased. This ends it, one star at a time.
2. 1-999-887-853 (Max Health & Armor). Short, easy and instantly useful in any fight.
3. 1-999-8665-87 (Give Weapons & Ammo). The shortest weapon-related number in the game.
4. 1-999-289-9633 (Buzzard). Instant armed helicopter. Your taxi and your air support.
5. 1-999-759-3255 (Skyfall). The best way to see Los Santos, and the fastest way to get somewhere high up.

Things that trip people up with phone cheats

• Trophies and achievements switch off. A phone call is still a cheat. Entering one blocks trophies and achievements until you reload or restart. If you’re hunting a platinum, read how cheats affect GTA 5 trophies and achievements first.
• The phone isn’t available everywhere. Some missions take the phone away or lock it during scripted sequences. If you can’t bring it up, you can’t cheat with it. Wait for the scripted bit to end.
• Vehicle spawns need space. Calling in a Buzzard in a parking garage won’t go well. Head outside.
• Toggle cheats toggle. Calling Moon Gravity again turns it off. Calling Slow Motion again moves to the next speed level, up to three, and a fourth call returns to normal.
• Online is off-limits. Phone cheats only work in Story Mode. They do nothing in GTA Online, and you shouldn’t try to cheat there by other means either.
